Quick links. Hardtop fitting kit UK forum for general and technical discussion about the Z3 roadster. Hardtop fitting kit Post by yangbrucey » Sun 18 Jan, Just had my hardtop fitted today. Bought the fitting kit from gilnockiehouse Klt on ebay Anslagstavlor Göteborg £, and this includes wiring and a BMW heated rear screen switch. The rear fixing clamps are machined from metal and look very strong and well made, and bolt into the threaded holes the BMW kit uses.
Brian sent me fitting instructions, but will also come to Teen Voyeur Spycam house and fit the hardtop and wire in the heated rear window for £ I took this option as it's better to get an expert to fit it than a numpty like me, and it seemed like Bmw Z3 Hardtop Mounting Kit good value.
Brian and his son braved a cold winter's day and took about 3 and a half hours to fit the hardtop. He also gave me some good tips about the Z3 and hardtop e. Took the Z3 out for a blast along the bypass and there was no wind noise from any of the seals and the hardtop seems rattle-free. Also got caught in a downpour and can report that there are no leaks. All in all I Mounring thoroughly recommend Brian, as he did a great job, his fitting kit is excellent and he is a really sound bloke.
Post by yalden » Mon 19 Jan, My concern has Munting been whether the fitting kit is Mountign visible whne the hardtop is not fitted to the car? What does it look like when you've got the roof down etc? Post by Orinoco » Mon 19 Jan, I can confirm what Robert T states is correct not sure about the kit that yangbrucey has though.
Regards Orinoco. Hrdtop by Robert T » Mon 19 Jan, Piccy of drivers side - this has the connector for the heated screen. You may still be able to buy these parts from BMW - both parts 25 on this page. Cheers R.
Alternative fitting kit pictures Post by yangbrucey » Sun 01 Feb, Here are pictures of the fitted alternative fitting kit. A simpe way of covering the mounts up for when the hood is down would just be to cover with a piece of back cloth - see pic 5 not very professional, I know, but does the job.

Has anybody with this kit noticed the hardtop shuddering from side to side slightly when cornering over rough roads Mine tends to shudder from side to side a bit depending on the surface while cornering. How about those of you with the genuine kit?
Any hardtop movement over bumpy road surfaces?? Post by raffee » Mon 02 Feb, I have bmw hardtop and filtting kit. Mine does not shudder or move at all on bumpy roads, at speed or otherwise. Post by bite me » Tue 03 Feb, my hard top is solid also. I've Bmw Z3 Hardtop Mounting Kit the mounting points on mine and all bolts are secure and torqued.
I can't really imagine what else it could be other than the mounts laterally shifting thats causing the shudder, as I said its only a slight shudder from side to Jane Buckingham Instagram while cornering over rough bumpy surfaces, Be nice if others with the homemade alloy mounts could chime in with their experiences Cheers guys Post by calbens » Wed 04 Feb, I think those of you who have bought this homemade fitting kit are extremely brave!
This guy has cobbled together some bits of metal with a few nuts and bolts and is charging £ at that for them! It makes me shudder to think what the out come would be if that roof decides to take off whilst you're driving, probably because Hwrdtop bolts worked loose or the metals fractured! Apart from the devastation the roof could cause can HHardtop imagine trying to make an insurance claim? I looked at the pics Kig the 3rd party kit and thought "That looks like something out of the Flintstones" - not quite bits of string, but some of the workman ships shows very obvious signs of being hand made.
Whilst I would not expect the hardtop to do much to protect you in a rollover - it is after all only fibreglass - I would hope the mountings would keep it attached to the car. Post by yalden » Wed 04 Feb, Is there a definitive list of BMW Nk Bikini 's listed on the forum detailing all the hard top fitting kit parts?

It looks like the passenger side to me. The photo could have been reveresd but on our 2.
Cheers Jason. The original post refers to an item purchased from eBay. Hopefully Yangbrucey will post an answer Cheers Titan. Post by calbens » Sun 08 Feb, Jason search for 'gilnockiehouse' in ebay sellers.
Not that I am endorsing his fitting kit because I wouldn't, but each to our own Haardtop they say. Don't bother doing the search I've done it for you, just click here. I did a search but couldn't find it Bmw Z3 Hardtop Mounting Kit need to try harder Thanks. Post by yangbrucey » Mon 09 Feb, Yes, I'm pretty sure he's got a few for sale, but will also sell you a fitting kit separately - I emailed him about a kit when he didn't have any advertised, and he sorted me out with one.
A few days Bmw Z3 Hardtop Mounting Kit my hardtop was fitted Bwm started to creak and groan a bit when Bmw Z3 Hardtop Mounting Kit car flexed going over bumps etc. After reading some of the comments above I was a bit worried about the fitting kit. There definitely seemed to be some movement between the rear of the hardtop and the car when driving over uneven surfaces, even though the rear brackets seemed rock solid and the front Allen bolts were tight in place. I phoned Brian and he ZZ3 the problem was probably caused by the Hardtoo rubber bungs stop buffers Kif part 32 on Real OEM on the rear of my hardtop being a bit flat and tired.
He came round yesterday and fitted 2 new stop buffers free of charge. These Bisexuel a good 10mm deeper than my ones and much firmer BMW must have changed the part at some Raye Roxy. We refitted the hardtop and took the Z3 out for a thorough test drive over some rough roads.
The movement and noise from the hardtop has disappeared, and I am happy that the bungs were the cause of the problem. Sorry if I put the wind up you, I didn't mean to. I still wouldn't trust one of his kits though Bex. Post by Titan » Tue 10 Feb, MaxZ3 wrote: By saying that it might be the two rubber blocks on my hardtop does this suggest that it is in fact the soft top making the shuddering from side to side noise when going over bumps??
Post by yangbrucey » Tue 10 Feb, The rubber bungs certainly seem to stop vibration of the hardtop. The noise I was hearing was caused by the hardtop vibrating on the worn bungs and rubbers seals running along the bottom of the hardtop where they meet with the car.
